Somebody Call 911!!!

Hi my name is Call 911 I am a grey weanling colt at FairWinds.  Mikie says he has been breeding for me for 3 years.  So YEAH! I am here!

Mikie says I have been so good during the training to lead and show.  I am the Reserve Champion Rocky Mountain Horse Internal Weanling Champion, WOO, WOO!!  I am so good and I love people, everyone is always coming in to pet me and discuss how pretty I am.

Ok, so today Mikie comes in puts a rope around my neck (yes I am so good I don’t need a halter). Humm, wonder where I am going…maybe to a show…if so I hope I win it all this time J

Mikie leads me out of barn to a pasture like I was in with my mom.  Wow this is exciting but kinda scary. We go in the field and Mikie turns me loose.  OH MY! What should I do?  Oh no, there is a big black bear in my field! It is huge and it is looking at me!  Why-O-Why did Mikie bring me here and turn me loose!?!  Does he want the bear to eat me!! Please someone help me…I’ve been so good L

Wait…the bear seems friendly, I see no teeth and it is looking at me with a friendly, cute expression.  Mikie seems calm. Maybe all is good.  Mikie is calling the bear Rosie.  Humm, Rosie the bear can’t be all-bad if Mikie likes “her” I guess.  WOOOOO, I feel so much better I am going to run and play!

And once again FairWinds is training a horse for trust whether for show, trail, or cow herding.  If anyone wants me for there own loving horse, contact FairWInds at info@fairwindsmountainhorses.com or call Mikie at (859) 771-4692

Well HELLO Human Race

It is I Scooter

Ok, let's just get it straight...I am the superior race (JRT)...This blog is written with facts and then written with what my incredible imagination comes up with.

Ok...Saturday night.  Humans-Bruce (best male human in world) and Myra (ooh such a bossy female b*#$%), get home from Oregon...I am not home, oh well, check for me in the morning…
Sunday morning, Bruce tells Myra I am missing since Friday (last Seen). So the search begins.  They go to neighbors, call people, call the pound.  The dog warden place says they have lots of JRT. They can come in between 1-5. But hey Scooter never leaves the farm.

Scooters story----Well HELLO, what is wrong with my people, they have been gone for days, so guess I am on my own.  Doing my thing, taking care of the farm...WAIT WHO IS THIS...Invaders, I immediately go into attack mode Going at them. Growl, bark, growl THEY HAVE CAPTURED ME. HELP!! Oh no!! Where are these strange humans taking me, they are leaving me beside the road...Bruce where are you, hey I'll even take Myra...please somebody help me...I am scared:(

Oh finally someone is here to help me; they are putting me in a vehicle, NO not a cage!!! Here I am in a kennel, in a strange building, with a hundred strange dogs...I remember being in this situation before and then Myra took me home to Bruce. Why am I here again, I am a perfect dog, why-oh-why!!!!  I hear a voice, sounds familiar, could it be? It is...its Myra...did I mention what a great human Myra is and how much I LOVE her.  She is taking me outta here again, back to Bruce.  I am so happy, not that I was ever afraid...Hey I was the BOSS at that pound, all those other dogs were scared to death of me...After all I am a JACK RUSSELL TERRIER...

Note from Myra:

Yes, we did come home to find Scooter missing.  No one had seen him for a couple days and yes we found him at the pound.  We also found out he was micro chipped from a previous visit to a pound before I found him at another pound...Yes Scooter is a true POUND PUPPY.

MEMORIES LIKE THE CORNERS OF MY MIND!

MEMORIES...LIKE THE CORNERS OF MY MIND
Well friends its fall again...my favorite time of year...blowing leaves, crisp clear days, chilly nights and the ROCKY MOUNTAIN HORSE INTERNATIONAL !

Celebration of the kindest, prettiest, most willing horse in the World.
Remembering the past shows, the numbers of horses, special performances of horses and mostly the people, joined together by a true love of these fantastic horses.

My special horsey memories are of course of Storm Warning ridden and shown by Derick Tipton-the thrills and the heartbreaks--1994 SAM TUTTLE AWARD WINNER, 1998 and 1999 International Reserve Grand Champion Under Saddle--both years he was the Stallion Grand Champion Under Saddle; back then there was only ONE International Grand Champion.  And his babies winning their conformation classes.

My other horsey memory is watching Fair Warning as a two-year-old showing in her class.  Sitting beside me was Bert Morgan...as I sit there fretting and a nervous wreck Bert assured me she was going to win...And she did!!!!  Over the rail at a high speed (I was a tad younger then) I went to grab that trophy!

And then there was Cookie Cutter (the incredible horse, hurt so bad as a yearling we thought she would never be ridden much less showing) but she was and SHE DID! The year Julie showed Cookie in the Western Classborrowed a saddle from Sidney Lansdale (most competitive of all but with a heart of gold) and some much needed advice to help Julie calm her nerves.  This was the first time for this team and Julie was afraid Cookie might decide to chase the wind. But Cookie had the “Heart of Lion” as Julie says and went in and WON THAT CLASS! As I ran out there to stand with Cookie and Julie in the Winners Circle I never knew it would be Cookie’s last win as she lost her life in a thunderstorm a month later

My resent special horsey memory is Julie calling to tell me Silky (Storm Warning x Fair Silk) and Mikie Bowen (my Favorite Son- in- Law) had just won the 2010 SAM TUTTLE AWARD!!!!!

I remember the tension before the final moments and me nearly in tears a lot of the time.  I remember the " big guy" Ronald Risner saying something nice to me and I broke down and cried ( he is a gentle giant).

I remember the pretty young girls that Sue Wells taught...Allison, Whitney, Courtney, Myranda, and how I wished I could ride like them and I wondered how Sue took such great care of them (and kept them under control).  Shew!!

I remember sitting with Sidney and Sandy one year and Sidney and me both stomping off mad when neither of our horses won!
I remember the decorations of stalls and everyone trying to beat everybody else.

I remember our first years, knowing nothing, and H.T. , Wilda and Larry teaching us gait, rear ends, front ends, ARGH so much to learn and SO MANY people.  Yes at that time there was standing room only and then probably three deep!!

I remember trying to help Vera watch Kaylee and Vera so calm, me scared to death Kaylee was going to get run over.

I remember Gary Gwisdalla and Rambin Rex showing off and playing at night in the stadium.  Gary yellin “How the Hell R Ya” and Rex taking care of him...because u see Gary was bareback and STANDING up.  It was a dance of its own...with two partners...a man and his horse.  It was one of my favorite things, they made it so funny but looking back I know it was a performance based on love and mutual respect.

I remember the parties---food, music, celebration, and dancing...you know I love dancing ...even on tables!!!
I remember homemade wine...Yes I Do...bringing friends to try it out...up at the barn on the hill...Hey Gary Y'all gonna be there this year??

Mostly I remember the love I felt and still feel for this incredible horse...There are good ones and then there are the magical, unbelievable devoted, caring ones that steal your breath....whether thru riding, loving, beauty, grace, parenting or any or all off the above...THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN HORSE...The true Mountain Horse that was bred and developed in the Hills of KY
As far as breeds goes the RMH is a young breed but thanks to the registry it is starting to be a “set” type with true Mountain Horse characteristics and conformation showing up consistently.

GOD BLESS everyone at this show.  Looking to have a good time, tough competition, A Huge Cheering Crowd and A HECK OF A GREAT TIME

COME ON BY FAIRWINDS (Barn 7)  We all need to visit AND HAVE SOME FUN!!

BTW Just keep on singing POKER FACE

Pitbull or Pig?

Hey guys for this blog there is a Warning::: DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE A PETA MEMBER, just go ahead and move to another web site.

Bruce and I are in Oregon and decided to attend the County Fair.  We went through all the barns...chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, bunnies, and of course beef cattle.  Thank goodness I couldn't get anything home or there would have been new critters at FairWinds!!

We watched working Quarter Horses and cowboys:) herd cattle and rope them...figuring our Rockies could do this...course they can do anything!!

Ate huge onion rings and the BEST corn dog.

Ok, for the Highlight of the fair!!! The SWINE show.  And the first class was a show.  First, just let me say I picked the top two!! Yeah me!  Now there were 13 swine or pigs as I call them and they weighed 200-220 lbs.  So, 13 pigs with their handlers controlling them with taps from a show stick takes awhile to judge (although I had already picked the top two remember). Well, I guess this one pig thought it was time for the winner to be picked...So she started trying to "take out" the competition".... Oh yeah the fights were on!!!  I mean what happened to pigs just wanting to eat!  Seriously this pig (we nicknamed her Pitbull) was after every pig she could get to!  Grown men with board panels had to put the panels and themselves between them to break up the fights!!  We had never seen pigs shown before so this was quite an eye opener for us or at least me. WOW!! I tried not to LOL but I did giggle ALOT.  That pig was hilarious and fearless.  The class took so long some of the pigs were laying down, but not Pitbull, oh no she was still going!  I would like to add she got Reserve in the class and was escorted out with one of the panel guys and her handler:))

As we watched the final class of swine we enjoyed some awesome RIBS!  That was probably in bad taste...Oh well, they were great, and that one piggie made the whole fair experience more fun.  No one was hurt and Pitbull only had a few battle marks on her...just wondering if a tough pig makes for a tough Ham???

As for PETA, really kinda wished they had shown up with their foolishness...Figuring between Pitbull and the Cowboys they would have been "Run Out Of Town"
